Breast cancer is unfortunately quite common among our women and the number of affected women is increasing day by day. We do not talk openly about the disease. Every year 15,000 women are affected with this deadly disease and 7,000 women die prematurely. With age, the risk of developing breast cancer increases and the genetic cause is another factor for it. October has been marked as the month for creating awareness of breast cancer. If breast cancer is detected early, there is a good chance of recovery and so we need to create awareness among the common people about this deadly disease.
In the developing world, deaths caused by breast cancer occur due to negligence and late detection of this disease. Lack of awareness is the main reason of late detection. We should organise cancer awareness campaign around the year as prevention is better than cure. Television, movie and other media can play an important role here in creating awareness among the common people. We should have treatment facility in our small towns also so that the rural women can have medical treatment and remain safe.
